The Art Of Sewing

Sewing is the craft and skill of attaching fabrics or materials or of repairing or decorating clothes with the help of threads as well as needles, making a pattern called a stitch.

It is believed to develop before weaving, spinning or knitting and is believed to be done with bone or ivory needles and threads made of materials and veins. Sewing was usually done with hands and is still done that way on a lower level. Since the invention of sewing machines in the 19th century, various changes have been observed in the field of art.

This requires a lot of skill and precision to prepare and produce a garment.

Some examples are sewing a pillowcase, blanket or garments such as aprons and skirts.

Other accessory tools that may be used during hand stitching are seam rippers to open up the wrong stitches and rotatory cutters to cut the fabric. For more complex and reliable stitching, machines are used to produce clothes that are cheaper, sturdier as well as elegant looking.

Sewing machines come with hand only operation options and hands with feet operation options. While the former may be used for household purposes but the latter is used in both homes; where much of stitching work is done. In industries where they are used for more purposes than only working with garment fabric; like for stitching on leather or for working on quilts.

Nowadays, computerized systems have been created to closely simulate and operate the functions of a manual sewing machine; so that no shortcomings remain in the clothing being produced. From embroidery hoops to specialized settings in our machine; embroidery has evolved enormously and has added the missing aesthetic in the plain as well as simple garments.
